About this program
JETPrep High School is a free, grant-supported enrichment program designed to complement Japanese language classrooms and help students understand why language learning matters beyond school.
Rather than focusing on grades, tests, or fluency benchmarks, JETPrep HS invites students to explore how Japanese language and culture connect to real people, real pathways, and real opportunities — both now and in the future.
Students participate through short self-paced activities, live virtual conversations, and guided reflection — all designed to fit alongside their regular classes.
Through guided reflection, live conversations, and interactive learning experiences, students begin to see what they are already building through language study: confidence, perspective, curiosity, and global awareness.
Supported by a Japan Foundation New York Education Grant.
Program developed by Positive Global Learning.

The Journey
The program is intentionally designed as a guided roadmap, helping students move from curiosity to understanding how Japanese language and culture connect to real-world pathways.
Throughout the program, students explore:
-
Why You Chose Japanese
-
Culture & Perspective
-
Learning Beyond the Classroom
-
Real People, Real Pathways
-
Working Across Difference
-
Finding Your Voice
-
Reflection & Looking Forward
Each section builds toward helping students understand what language learning is already giving them — even before fluency.

What Makes JETPrep High School Different
Instead of pushing students toward answers, JETPrep HS gives them space to explore, reflect, and begin imagining what’s possible.
-
This program is not about choosing a career.
-
It’s not about pressure, performance, or having the “right” answers.
-
JETPrep HS is designed to help students make meaning of their learning — to recognize that studying Japanese builds confidence, perspective, empathy, and global awareness long before it leads to a job.
-
Students are encouraged to explore, reflect, and imagine possibilities — not decide them.
-
You don’t need answers.
You just need a place to start.

What Students Walk Away With
By the end of the program, students leave with:
-
stronger confidence in themselves as learners
-
clearer sense of direction and possibility
-
language to talk about their growth and interests
-
a personal reflection portfolio
-
a certificate of completion
Most importantly, students leave understanding that language learning matters — even before fluency.

For Teachers & Families
This program was designed in partnership with educators to support — not add to — classroom instruction.
Participation is free for students and can be used as:
-
an enrichment opportunity
-
a club or extension activity
-
a reflective companion to language study
Teachers and families are welcome to learn more and reach out with questions.
