A personal note on why this program exists and what it’s designed to support.

This program was created through conversations and surveys with current, alumni, and prospective JET participants.

​

Again and again, I heard the same thing:
people were excited about the opportunity — but unsure how to move from interest to truly feeling ready.

JETPrep Travel was designed to support that transition.

 

Not just by experiencing Japan, but by helping you build the confidence, communication skills, and cultural understanding that carry into your application, your interview, and your time abroad.

 

And beyond that — these are transferable skills that stay with you long after the program ends.

 

Whether you pursue JET, teaching, or a completely different path, the ability to communicate across cultures, reflect on your experiences, and move forward with clarity and confidence will shape how you show up in your work and your life.

A focused experience designed to support you before, during, and after your time in Japan.

​This short-term experience is designed to deliver real clarity, confidence, and direction in a focused, intentional timeframe.

​

Phase 1 — Pre-Departure Preparation (Online)

Build your foundation before you arrive:

  • Japanese education system + ALT role

  • Cross-cultural communication

  • Lesson planning + teaching confidence

  • Personal storytelling + your “why”

Phase 2 — Tokyo Arrival & Cohort Experience (Oct 2–4)

Begin your journey together:

  • Flexible arrival and time to adjust

  • Cohort connection and shared start

  • Travel together to northern Japan

 

Phase 3 — Hirosaki Education & Cultural Immersion (Oct 4–10)

Experience daily life in Japan while building real-world skills:

  • Classroom visits in junior and senior high schools

  • Opportunities to observe, support, and teach

  • Collaboration with Japanese teachers and teachers-in-training

  • Cultural workshops (calligraphy, festivals, crafts)

  • Community engagement and daily life immersion
