🌱 Why We Created JETThrive
Over the past year, we've spoken with current and former JET participants from across Japan and around the world about their experiences, challenges, and hopes for what comes next.
Although every JET journey is unique, one theme continued to emerge: people deeply value their experience, yet rarely have opportunities to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the people, perspectives, and experiences that shaped that chapter of their lives.
Some are navigating life after JET.
Others are still living in Japan and looking for renewed energy, meaningful connection, or space to reflect on what comes next.
Many simply miss being part of a community that understands the joys, challenges, and personal growth that come with living and working abroad.
JETThrive was created to provide intentional spaces for reflection, wellbeing, cultural immersion, and authentic connection with others who share the international experience.
Rather than centering only on professional development or tourism, JETThrive creates opportunities to slow down, build meaningful relationships, explore new places with intention, and reconnect with what matters most.
The Taiwan Retreat is the beginning of that vision.

🌏 Why JETThrive Is Different
While you'll experience some of Taiwan's most beautiful cultural and natural places, this retreat is about much more than sightseeing. It's an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself and others, and experience Taiwan through reflection, wellbeing, community, and meaningful cultural connection.
Many travel experiences help you see a destination.
JETThrive invites you to experience it more deeply.
JETThrive is designed to help you slow down, reconnect with yourself and others, and engage with a destination in a more meaningful way.
Through wellness practices, cultural immersion, nature experiences, and authentic community connections, you'll have the opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and return home feeling refreshed, inspired, and grounded.

🌱 Community Beyond the Retreat
JETThrive doesn't end when the retreat concludes. Through the broader Positive Global Learning community, you'll continue building friendships, joining future gatherings, participating in virtual events, and finding opportunities to reconnect long after you return to Japan.
👥 Intentionally Small Cohort
With just 6–12 participants, you'll have the opportunity to build genuine relationships, engage in meaningful conversations, and experience Taiwan in a way that's personal, flexible, and community-centered.
🤝 Meet Your Guides &
Partners in Taiwan
JETThrive Taiwan Retreat is the result of a partnership between Positive Global Learning and Know My World, bringing together expertise in cultural exchange, social-emotional learning, wellbeing, and international education. Together, we've designed an experience that blends meaningful travel with personal growth, authentic community connection, and local cultural engagement.
Rather than simply visiting Taiwan, you'll engage with local communities, educators, artists, wellness practitioners, and cultural traditions through experiences designed to encourage connection, reflection, and lifelong learning.
Throughout the retreat, you'll have the opportunity to learn from people who care deeply about building bridges across cultures, supporting wellbeing, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impact.
Who you'll be learning, reflecting, and connecting with:
And these are just a few of the people you'll meet throughout the experience.
❤️ Is This Retreat Right for You?

This phase invites you to experience Taiwan through meaningful connection, local traditions, and creative expression. Rather than simply observing from the outside, you’ll be invited to participate — to try, taste, listen, create, and engage with the culture in ways that feel personal and memorable. Through language, art, food, story, and cultural exchange with the Atayal aboriginal community, Taiwan becomes more than a destination; it becomes a place of curiosity, conversation, and deeper understanding.

Phase 3 — Personal Reflection & Renewal
Create space to turn inward
Midway through the retreat, you’ll have intentional space to step away from the noise of everyday life and turn gently inward. The morning begins with a wellness workshop focused on mindfulness, stress reduction, guided discussion, and reflective journaling — offering a grounded space to reconnect with yourself and what you need. In the afternoon, you’ll journey to Jiufen Old Street, a lantern-lit mountain village known for its old-world charm and inspiring atmosphere. As evening settles in, the day closes with a traditional tea ceremony, reflection, and restorative practices, creating space to integrate the experience with calm, presence, and renewal.

Phase 4 — Nature & Wellbeing
Restore through movement and nature
This phase invites you into Taiwan’s breathtaking natural landscapes, where movement, fresh air, and shared adventure create space for both renewal and joy. From the peaceful landscapes of Yangmingshan National Park to the soothing experience of thermal hot springs and the vibrant energy of a local night market, this part of the journey offers a meaningful balance of rest and exploration. You’ll recharge your body, awaken your senses, and reconnect with the simple pleasure of being fully present in a place alive with color, flavor, and possibility.

Phase 5 — Integration & Return
Carry the journey home
As the journey comes to a close, you’ll be invited to gather the moments, insights, and connections that have unfolded along the way. Rather than rushing back into daily life, this final phase offers space to reflect, celebrate, and consider how the renewal you’ve experienced can continue to support you after the retreat ends. You’ll return home not only with memories of Taiwan, but with a renewed sense of energy, belonging, and possibility.
Highlights

Guided reflection circles and meaningful group conversations to integrate your experience

Departure with continued opportunities for connection, support, and community after returning home

❓ Questions You May Have
We know taking time away for yourself is a meaningful investment. Here are a few common questions to help you decide whether this retreat is right for you.
Do I need to be a current JET participant?
No. The retreat is designed primarily for current JET participants and JET alumni. If space remains available, we may also welcome a limited number of participants whose backgrounds and interests align with the goals of the retreat.
Do I need experience with mindfulness, meditation, or wellness practices?
Not at all. Activities are designed to be welcoming and accessible for participants with a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels. Curiosity, openness, and a willingness to engage are far more important than prior experience.
Is this a sightseeing tour?
No—not in the traditional sense. While we'll experience some of Taiwan's most beautiful cultural and natural places, JETThrive is designed around meaningful connection, reflection, wellbeing, and authentic cultural engagement rather than checking destinations off a list.
Will there be free time?
Yes. The retreat balances structured experiences with opportunities for rest, exploration, journaling, personal reflection, and informal connection with fellow participants.
Where will we stay?
Participants will stay together in a shared retreat-style Airbnb in and around Taipei, creating opportunities for deeper community, conversation, and connection throughout the experience. Additional details will be provided following registration. The shared space is an intentional part of the experience, creating opportunities for conversation, connection, and community throughout the retreat.
What is included in the program fee?
The retreat fee includes accommodations, transportation associated with program activities, workshops, cultural experiences, reflection sessions, and most scheduled activities. International airfare, some meals, and personal expenses are not included.
Will I have support throughout the retreat?
Absolutely. The retreat is facilitated by Positive Global Learning and Know My World, with support from local partners, educators, and community members throughout the experience.
I'm at a transition point in my life or career. Is this retreat for me?
Many participants join during periods of transition, reflection, or change. Whether you're considering what's next after JET, navigating a career shift, seeking renewed purpose, or simply looking for space to recharge, the retreat is designed to support thoughtful reflection and personal growth.
How do I reserve my spot?
Because the retreat is intentionally limited to 6–12 participants, we encourage early registration.
Once you submit your registration, we'll reach out with next steps, additional retreat information, and payment details.
What if I've never been to Taiwan?
That's perfectly okay. Whether this is your first visit or you've traveled to Taiwan before, the retreat is designed around shared experiences, reflection, and community rather than prior knowledge of the destination.
What level of physical activity should I expect?
Most activities are accessible to people with average mobility. There will be opportunities for walking and light hiking, but we'll share more detailed information before the retreat so participants know what to expect.
👉 Still have questions?
We'd love to hear from you. If you have questions or would simply like to talk about whether this retreat is the right fit, please don't hesitate to reach out.
