The JETPrep Application Lab is a small-group experience designed to guide you through reflection, writing, feedback, and revision so you can create a Statement of Purpose that is authentic, focused, and true to your story.
You'll work alongside other aspiring JET applicants while receiving guidance from current and former JET participants who understand the journey firsthand.
This is more than essay feedback.
It's a guided writing and reflection experience designed to help you discover your story, strengthen your application, and build confidence throughout the JET application process.

You'll receive guided prompts, examples, and a clear framework to help you move from a blank page to a working draft.

Revision is where your essay becomes sharper.
You'll learn how to strengthen your opening, clarify your examples, reduce generic language, and ensure your final draft reflects both who you are and what you hope to contribute through the JET Programme.
Each step builds on the last, so by the end of the program you'll have more than a polished essay—you'll have a deeper understanding of your own story and the confidence to communicate it authentically.

Workshop 1: Discovering Your Story
Through guided reflection, you'll uncover the experiences, values, and motivations that belong at the heart of your Statement of Purpose.
Workshop 2: Building Your Statement of Purpose
Learn how strong Statements of Purpose are organized and begin shaping your experiences into a clear, authentic narrative.
Workshop 3: Revision, Feedback & Recommendation Letters
Receive structured feedback on your draft, strengthen clarity and flow, and learn practical strategies for requesting and supporting strong recommendation letters.
Workshop 4: Finalizing Your Application & Next Steps
Polish your Statement of Purpose, prepare your application for submission, and discuss the final steps as you move confidently through the JET application process.
🤝 Optional Story Circles
Between workshops, you'll have the opportunity to join optional Story Circles—small-group peer review sessions focused on your Statement of Purpose.
Working alongside fellow applicants and current or former JET participants, you'll receive thoughtful, supportive feedback designed to strengthen your essay while staying true to your authentic voice.
Each Story Circle includes just 2–3 applicants and one JET mentor, creating a collaborative space to ask questions, exchange perspectives, and gain new insights before submitting your application.
From your first reflection to your final draft, you'll have guidance, encouragement, and feedback every step of the way.

❓ You Might Be Wondering…
Taking this step can feel exciting—and maybe a little overwhelming. Here are a few answers to questions we hear most often.
Do I need to already have a draft?
No. The Application Lab is designed for both applicants starting from a blank page and those who already have a draft they'd like to strengthen.
Is this only for people applying this year?
Not at all. While it's especially helpful for applicants in the current application cycle, future applicants are welcome too. Starting early gives you more time to reflect, revise, and prepare with confidence.
Will you write my Statement of Purpose for me?
No. Your Statement of Purpose should always reflect your own voice and experiences.
We'll guide you through reflection, ask thoughtful questions, provide honest feedback, and help you strengthen your essay—but the final story will always be yours.
Is JETPrep officially affiliated with the JET Program?
No. JETPrep is an independent educational program created to support aspiring JET applicants through reflection, preparation, and community-based learning.
Will I receive feedback on my draft?
Yes. The Application Lab includes multiple opportunities to receive supportive feedback through live workshops, optional Story Circles, peer discussion, and facilitator guidance.
